Investigation
Have you been mis-sold a static caravan by a holiday park in the past or currently own one?
Austen Hays is investigating claims on behalf of caravan homeowners who have suffered losses as a result of unscrupulous practices by holiday park operators.
About the investigation
The holiday park industry is unregulated and has often been described like the ‘wild west’. Whilst purchasing a caravan should be an exciting and relaxing project, caravan owners are frequently finding that their dream purchase turns into a nightmare.
In the purchase process, consumers are regularly not informed of the full picture. Consumers are duped into paying an inflated purchase price and not told that the value of their caravan may drop substantially after purchase, even after just a few years. When the time comes to sell their static caravans, owners find themselves out of pocket to the tune of thousands as they were not warned of the levels of fees and depreciation when selling. These losses are even larger if you purchased your caravan with a finance agreement.
Additionally, some holiday parks have been increasing pitch fees annually, far in excess of inflation and reasonable levels. For some, a caravan home is an affordable alternative to traditional living. However, these pitch fee rises drive the cost of living to an unaffordable level and could also lead to owners going into debt.
For certain holiday parks, there may even have been hidden commission arrangements between finance companies and the holiday park operator.
