Eleanor is an experienced litigator who focuses on complex collective redress, mainly in relation to breaches of competition law but also data protection legislation. Eleanor has a breadth of experience in managing collective, multi-party and representative claims in both the Competition Appeal Tribunal (Tribunal) and High Court. Having been involved in some of the leading competition cases over the last decade, she continues to work at the forefront of the collective actions regime in the UK.

Eleanor sits on the Board of the Collective Redress Lawyers Association (CORLA) and was shortlisted for Disputes Lawyer of the Year at the Women & Diversity Awards 2023. Eleanor has been interviewed on the BBC News and published in The Times, discussing potential civil claims for image-based abuse and the non-consensual distribution of intimate images on public platforms.

Recent work that Eleanor has been involved in includes:

  1. Advising on the £25m collective settlement approved by the Tribunal in May 2024 between Stagecoach South Western Trains and Justin Gutmann, in relation to rail passengers paying twice for part of their train journeys (the Boundary Fares litigation). 
  2. Leading the team in the first of three trials in the Tribunal in June and July 2024 against the remaining defendants in the Boundary Fares litigation.
  3. Managing certified opt-out collective proceedings on behalf of Justin Gutmann, who is seeking damages in the region of £853 million from Apple for breaching UK competition law through its exploitative and abusive behaviour in relation to the supply of iPhones and iOS updates.
  4. Advising class representatives in relation to the impact of PACCAR and funding challenges brought by various defendants.
  5. Advising Dr. Rachael Kent in preparing and filing her application for an opt-out collective proceedings order against Apple seeking damages of up to £1.5 billion. The now certified claim alleges Apple excluded competition and/or charged an unfair and excessive level of commission on purchases of paid apps and in-app purchases of digital content, services or subscriptions in the App Store.
  6. Advising Elizabeth Coll in preparing and filing her opt-out collective action against Google seeking damages of up to £920 million. The now certified claim alleges Google excluded competition and/or charging an unfair and excessive level of commission on purchase of paid apps and in-app purchases of digital content, services and subscriptions in the Google Play Store. 
  7. Representing Duncan McCann in the proposed representative action in the High Court, brought on behalf of children and parents in England and Wales, for breaches of data protection legislation by YouTube.
